Updated: Mar 8, 2022
Durie-Salmon staging system for multiple myeloma
Stage 1
Low Myeloma cell mass: <0.6 × 1012 cells/m2 + all of the following criteria present:
Hemoglobin above 10 g/dl
Serum Immunoglobulins level - IGA less than 3 g/dl and Serum IGG less than 5 g/dl
Serum Calcium level within normal limits
No generalized lytic bone lesions
Urine monoclonal protein excretion less than 4 grams in 24 hour urine collection
Stage 3:
Myeloma cell mass: >1.2 × 1012 cells/m2 + one or more of the following criteria present:
Hemoglobin less than 8.5 g/dl
Immunoglobulins level Serum IGA more than 5 g/dl or Serum IGG more than 7 g/dl
Serum Calcium level more than 12 mg/dl
Lytic bone lesions
Urine monoclonal protein excretion greater than 12 grams in 24 hour urine collection
Stage 3A = Creatinine less than 2 mg/dl
Stage 3B = Creatinine more than 2 mg/dl
Stage 2
Intermediate Myeloma cell mass: Neither stage 1 nor stage 3
